This is an easy to make healthy recipe where white peas are cooked in onion - coconut gravy and served with pav. <br /> <br />Ingredients: <br /> <br />Masala Paste for Usal: <br />1 tbsp Oil <br />1 Onion, chopped <br />4 tbsp Grated Fresh Coconut <br />1 tsp Garam Masala Powder <br />Water <br /> <br />For Usal Gravy: <br />250 gms White Peas, cooked <br />2-3 tbsp Oil <br />1 Onion, chopped <br />1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder <br />Tamarind pulp in size of a lemon <br />2 tbsp Red Chilli Powder <br />1 tsp Jaggery <br />Water <br />Salt to taste <br />Coriander Leaves <br /> <br />For Potato Sabzi: <br />3 tbsp Oil <br />1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds <br />1/2 tsp Turmeric powder <br />3 Green Chillies <br />250 gms Potatoes, boiled & chopped <br />Salt to taste <br />Coriander Leaves <br /> <br />Method: <br /> <br />Usal: <br />- For the masala paste heat some oil in a pan. <br />- Add grated fresh coconut and chopped onion. Saute everything well till it changes colour. <br />- Transfer this mixture into a grinder. Also add garam masala powder and little water. <br />- Grind everything to a smooth paste. Keep this paste aside till further use. <br />- For the gravy, heat some oil in a pan. <br />- Add chopped onion, turmeric powder and masala paste. Mix well. <br />- Add little water and let everything come to a boil. <br />- Then add pressure cooked white peas, tamarind, red chilli powder, jaggery and salt. Mix well. <br />- Add water and coriander leaves. Let everything cook for 2-3 minutes. <br />- Usal is ready to be served. <br /> <br />Potato Sabzi <br />- In a pan heat some oil. <br />- Add mustard seeds, turmeric powder and green chillies. Give a stir. <br />- Add boiled potatoes. Mix well. <br />- Add salt to taste and mix everything well. Let the sabzi cook for a minute. <br />- Add coriander leaves and serve as a side dish with Usal Pav.
